Access to Finance from LOLC Cambodia Transforms Local Entrepreneur’s Life

Before becoming a business owner, Mr. Va Koemsan worked as an employee who relied on a steady income from his monthly salary to support his family’s daily expenses. While his job provided stability, he aspired to create greater financial opportunities and improve his family’s standard of living.

Driven by this ambition, Mr. Koemsan made the decision to change direction and pursue self-employment. He gradually established multiple income-generating activities, including buying and selling cattle, selling coffee and running a grocery shop in Thlok Vien village, Thlok Vien commune, Samaki Meanchey district, Kampong Chhnang province. Through these efforts, he has successfully built a more sustainable and diversified source of income, significantly improving his family’s quality of life.

Mr. Koemsan first learned about LOLC Cambodia through his parents, who were already clients. Inspired by their experience, he began his own financial journey with the institution. Over the years, he has completed four loan cycles, each playing a crucial role in supporting the growth of his businesses and enhancing his family’s living conditions.

In 2017, Mr. Koemsan received his first loan of $7,000, which he used to purchase cattle for resale, while also allocating part of the funds to improve his home. Building on this progress, he took a second loan of $12,000 in 2019 to expand his cattle trading business further, renovate his house and purchase a motorcycle to support transportation needs. By 2023, with a third loan of $20,000, Mr. Koemsan strengthened his business operations by increasing working capital and investing in land for future development. Most recently, in 2025, he accessed a fourth loan of $27,000, enabling him to open a small coffee shop and grocery store while continuing to expand his existing businesses.

Through the responsible use of financial services and his unwavering determination, Mr. Koemsan has transformed his life into a successful entrepreneur with multiple income streams. Today, he enjoys improved living conditions, greater financial security and the ability to support his family’s needs, including investing in his child’s education.

Mr. Koemsan’s journey reflects how access to financial services, combined with hard work and clear vision, can empower individuals to achieve sustainable growth and long-term prosperity.
